Exclusive #holoSerendipity Unit Interview: Calliope & Shiori

We interviewed each performing unit of the upcoming hololive English 4th Concert -Serendipity-!
Thank you for your time today! In case there are any new fans reading, could you introduce yourselves and share a bit about your channel?
Calliope: “What’s up, Dead Beats?! Mori Calliope here! If you don’t know me, now you do. But, I’ll give you a little more just in case, cuz death can be generous, too. While my origins are sending folks to the afterlife, I’m actually a singer and songwriter! I write my own lyrics, I’ve made hundreds of songs (quite a few for anime too) and I love doing vocals in general. On my off time, I game and I especially love when it’s challenging!! My dream is to take on the biggest stage EVER and tour the whole world at some point. Like a plague…”
Shiori: “Shiori~n! Shiori Novella here at your service! I’m just a whacky, sleepy eepy girl who enjoys making vlogs and sharing silly jokes or memes! I write community posts about things that interest me, basically treating it like some public diary, and I record and edit my own vlogs which is something I’m very proud of. My community is called Novelites (Novel-eets)! Everyone’s there to just have a good time with games or community events meant to improve our quality of life.”
The upcoming hololive 4th Concert -Serendipity- is just around the corner, and you must be busy! What part of concert preparation have you been enjoying the most so far?
Calliope: “Vocals!! I’m doing some really vocally challenging songs this time, but I’m ready for them. Actually practicing to make sure they’re perfect is the hard part, but day by day I’m happier with how they’re sounding. I wanna make a really big impression, so I’ve been thinking about how to REALLY catch people off guard with my own solo. I think a lot of holoEN fans only remember my vocals from the days when I stuck primarily to J-rap inspired tracks. A lot of things have changed since then, so get ready for something you may not have heard before if it’s been a few years. Though Dead Beats might already have an idea of what to expect…”
Shiori: “I just like being with the girlies behind-the-scenes! Hearing our voices mesh together, knowing how hard everyone is working, and locked in a room for survival and feeling united in wanting to give everyone a grand time is the best part! The sweet cathartic freedom after everything is done is also at the top there!”
How have the rehearsals for the show been going? Have you faced any memorable challenges along the way?
Calliope: “This has been our most challenging show yet. A lot of walls to break down. But I hope you guys will feel our spirit and the will of the talents to bring forth the very best we as EN can bring to you.”
Shiori: “Just lots of sore muscles and lots and lots of sweat! I try my best with just keeping up and memorizing dance positions, but I still do get scared of messing up. At the end of the day, I’m just doing my best so there’s that!”
We’d love to hear the first impressions you had of your unit partner! What did you think when you first met her?
Calliope: “I am a little obsessed with her, but that fact stays between us. I liked her voice and look the moment I saw her. When I’m not investigating ways to steal her jacket, her hair, her closet, her BODY…I’m admiring the amazing work she’s been doing on her own. I am going to steal her soul.”
Shiori: “It’s been a while since our first meeting so the memories are kind of blurry! All I know and still think to this day is that Mor Mori (Mori) works incredibly hard and really pushes herself to her limit. She’s amazing at everything and I just genuinely appreciate how down-to-earth she is!”
So far, we’ve had 3 concerts for hololive English overseas. Thinking back, what is your earliest memory on a project together with your unit partner? How did you feel when working together?
Calliope: “I had a really weird stream idea I wanted to try, where we did deep-dives on characters from childhood and explored adult themes within them. It was a super ridiculous idea, but I knew Shiori was the only person it’d work as a collab with. She’s really good at talking about the most out of pocket stuff, and going with the flow. It’s never awkward if it’s something random we’re discussing.”
Shiori: “Mmm, what I remembered about our first concert together was how emotionally draining it was to just sit backstage. We all bond over the adrenaline rush of performing, being on stage, and just being in perhaps an unfamiliar city and so on. It was nerve-wrecking to wait for your turn basically, and being in the room together lets you feel how others feel.”
What is the trait about your unit partner that you really admire and why?
Calliope: “Shiori does a lot of stuff nobody is doing, and she does it just because she wants to. She really inspires me to just do what I feel like, instead of just “flavor-of-the-month-ing” 24/7!”
Shiori: “Her work ethic and boundaries! She’s an absolute powerhouse that still knows and maintains her limits! I admire how much she does while being able to take care of herself.”
How would you describe your unit dynamic to someone who is new to hololive English?
Calliope: “Unhinged.”
Shiori: “Chill and cool chicks probably. Edgy dad energy for one. Ditzy what-is-she-talking about energy for me.”
What are you looking forward to the most, coming together as a unit? Do you share any goals for your performance?
Calliope: “I think our goals for content are different, so when we come together we just vibe. The common goal is to just get the audience excited with something that they maybe didn’t expect at an idol concert. She seems to revel in surprising people, and I just love the song we chose so I hope you guys will dig it.”
Shiori: “As long as I don’t mess up and let my partner(s) down, I’m pretty satisfied! That’s my goal! I look forward to seeing the reactions! Cheers of WOOOOOOO and comments after finishing the performance is nice once my brain is all calmed down!”
So, without spoiling the show, do you have any hints you can share about the performance?
Calliope: “Something Shiori and I share is a taste for darkness. We’ve got our own devils, and we’re gonna share them with you!”
Shiori: “Nope! It’s going to be cool though!”
Please share a final message to your fans before the concert!
Calliope: “I’m your Mori, and you’re gonna remember me! Us, even! You aren’t ready for this performance. But if by chance YOU ARE…then as I always say, make sure to be conscious of your neighbor (person in front of you) while you headbang. Help your friends up if they fall. Make sure everyone is hydrated and no one is hurt. And have the best time ever!”
Shiori: “Have lots of fun! Don’t lose any of your belongings! Stay safe too! Take things at your own pace too! Just enjoy the show and make good memories for yourself!”
Stick around for the remaining interviews, coming to us at a later date!
